Happy Birthday Sherron

It’s my wife’s birthday today. Only seemed right to create a special birthday card for her. Nothing like antlers, bouquet of flowers and fire. An effective combo.

Weekend at the Races: Bristol Motor Speedway Food City 500

This last weekend I had the opportunity to go shoot the Nascar race at Bristol Motor Speedway. Particularly the Food City 500 and Scotts Turf Builder 300. It’s not often I shoot this type of photography, and it’s my first time shooting a sports event. I have to say, I really enjoyed it. Over twelve hundred photos over a two day period. Here’s a small handful of my favorites.

And a few more after the jump…

Unfortunate End

Early on in the “Saints” series I sketched a piece out I called ‘Nurses’. As time went on it evolved out of the “Saints” series into it’s own standalone piece. Along the way I tried in every way to find the right set where I could build it out as it was in my head. While I was unable to find a location, other than my studio, I was able to find a spot with the exact table I was looking for. So, there was only one thing to do at that point. Composite everything else into the shot. After a bit of work, I’ve landed on the final shot. Now it’s on to some new “Saints” pieces.

Spiritus Obscura, Volume 1

Hello 2010. Glad you’re here. For the last year I have been working on a new photography collection called Spiritus Obscura. Much of the time has been spent experimenting with lighting and process. I finally feel, as 2009 closed, that I’ve found a groove. So now, in 2010 I am putting much focus on this set and working on talking with publishers as my hope is to publish volume 1 this year. These photos represent only a tiny handful of what has been shot, but what is to be expected in the book. Here’s the description, or artists statement if you will, of what I hope to represent and accomplish with the collection. (warning: some images contain nudity. must be 18, or older, to view)

Spragwerks For Christmas Perhaps?

For quite some time I have drooled over the creations at Spragwerks. Up until now I thought I had that problem under control. Well, thanks to the ladies at Haute Macabre I’ve seen a little preview of the latest goods titled “Tools of the Trade”. So, let the drooling begin again. It’s gonna be a mess.

This is what I do and love. Each of these have common traits with the other; communication, dots and constraints. Each must communicate an idea to the viewer or perhaps an idea or action. In order to convey this message there are dots in need of connection, often in the form of creative problem solving. And with each there are constraints that must be worked within whatever the size. It's the navigation of these traits, paired with the journey, that drives the need to do these things.

I'm currently available for full-time, freelance and contract gigs. When I'm not working I'm creating photography resources, mixing cocktails or showcasing poster artwork from around the world.
