A Sketch a Day

I love photography and image making. But I also love sketching, drawing, conceptualizing and don’t spend near enough time doing it. So this last week I decided to start a sketch a day. I’m on day 4. As I do the sketches I’m uploading them to my flickr account which is where all my experimental and miscellaneous work goes. Hopefully this will keep me somewhat accountable. This sketch here is from day 2. More here.

How about you? Doing any sort of sketch or photograph a day? Would love to hear about it and what you’re doing to stay committed to it.

Love the idea, but even more, love your style.  I have always wanted to draw but photography kinda has taken the driving seat.  You have inspired me to start sketching again, just need to remember my childhood passion that I once had!  I think my skills need developing a lot before being committed to one a day!  However, at least the sketchbook is out again and I will start!

Thanks for the comment Andy. Great to hear your inspired.

I hear you on it taking a backseat. Finding time to do it is quite difficult. It’s really worth it though. Not only does it take you away from the computer and a desk, but it gives you a place to get concepts and ideas down onto paper. I think that is the primary element I am finding to be so fulfilling. Second is as you mentioned above. It’s really bringing back the childhood memories.

Great to hear the sketchbook is back out. Let me know how it goes.

This is what I do and love. Each of these have common traits with the other; communication, dots and constraints. Each must communicate an idea to the viewer or perhaps an idea or action. In order to convey this message there are dots in need of connection, often in the form of creative problem solving. And with each there are constraints that must be worked within whatever the size. It's the navigation of these traits, paired with the journey, that drives the need to do these things.

I'm currently available for full-time, freelance and contract gigs. When I'm not working I'm creating photography resources, mixing cocktails or showcasing poster artwork from around the world.
